Romantic Dinner?
Posted on 26. Jul, 2011 by Lighting Expert.
On their anniversary night, the husband sat his wife sat down in the den with her favorite magazine, turned on the soft reading lamp, slipped off her shoes, patted and propped her feet and announced that he was preparing dinner all by himself.
"How romantic!" she thought.
Two-and-a-half hours later, she was still waiting for dinner to be served. She tiptoed to the kitchen and found it in a colossal mess.
Her harried husband, removing something indescribable from the smoking oven, saw her in the doorway. "Almost ready!" he vowed. "Sorry it took me so long — I had to refill the pepper shaker."
"Why, honey, how long could that have taken you?"
"More’n an hour, I reckon. Wasn’t easy stuffin’ it through those dumb little holes."

Are Ottlite lamps really that special/superior to conventional fluorescent light?
Posted on 06. Apr, 2011 by Lighting Expert.
Would this one be good for reading?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250729543895&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I’ve read a lot on the Internet about "full spectrum" lighting being a marketing term that doesn’t mean much.
A basic fluorescent lamp that looks the same can be purchased at Office Works for .
I live in Melbourne, Australia.
Any recommendations for a good quality desk reading lamp would also be appreciated.
I want the light to be as "natural" and daylight like as possible to minimise sleep disturbance which is apparently caused by bright artificial lights.

Seniors, do you keep a dictionary & thesaurus on your desk? What else?
Posted on 20. Feb, 2011 by Lighting Expert.
My "desk" is an 8′ long wooden farm table….computer is at one end. Next to it is a group of books….my journal, a dictionary, a thesaurus, address book, and my spiral notebook I use to make my "lists". My telephone is at the other end…sitting on phone books. It is in my living room….up against a short wall. 2-drawer file cabinet and shelving is underneath….with an old-timey wooden four-legged stool that has a thousand coats of enamel paint on it.
It is my "command post"….with the good reading lamp, I use the desk all day long.
How is your "command post" set up and where in your house is it?
What do you use for a desk

Lighting suggestion? This yellow light is too dim for my bed room. Hard to read…?
Posted on 31. Dec, 2010 by Lighting Expert.
Study housing apartment. Remarkably low light in my bed room. I have one ceiling fan light. I think it (or maybe the glass cover is) is yellow.
I bought at desk lamp LED that is bright enough for me to read but it to is inconvenient. I can not lean over my desk that much. It is not bright enough over even 3 feet. It has this 1inch/1inch square of 16 tiny yellow led lights.
I am hoping for a strong light that I can put in this ceiling light fixture and take the covering off.
A more important factor than the actual power of the light (which, based on how low this light actually is, shouldn’t be hard to improve on) is the heat.
I hate it when my room gets hot. Or even warm. I like the cold.
Any suggestions? Maybe there is an "expensive" not so common high brightness light bulb that fits normal light sockets that won’t produce any unnecessary heat?
Now I don’t need a flight bulb that will make my bedroom glow, I just need something that makes it possible to read and highlight.
It is so dark in here, without my LED light, I can’t even see highlights on the text.
Ive tried a book reading lamp (one of those little clamp on 1 led light things) but it isn’t very strong, and is essentially worthless. Maybe it was cheap, I do not know.
Suggestions?

How well can plants photosynthesize with the light of an average halogen or incandescent lamp?

Let’s say an average reading lamp with a halogen or an incandescent bulb is hung over a plant. How well can it photosynthesize with it, compared to sunlight?

Is there a safe way to run an electrical cord from a wall socket to a lamp in the middle of the room?
Posted on 15. Aug, 2010 by Lighting Expert.
We are having new carpet installed in our family room next week. Is it possible to somehow run an electrical cord under the carpet to a reading lamp that is near the center of the room (about 5′ from the nearest wall socket)? Presently, the lamp cord is partially tucked under an area rug that sits on top of the carpet. But we plan to get rid of this area rug once the new carpet is laid. We don’t want someone to accidentally trip over the cord.
I won’t give any "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" since I appreciate all answers–usually.
