Turtle MIA please help me….?

Posted on 30. Aug, 2011 by .

I have a 15 gallon fish tank which I keep my two inch goldfish and my Midland Painted turtles. The first turtle that I got is about an inch long and I named it Tiger. My second turtle I got is around 2 inches long and I named it Skit. My fish tank is out of the sun, and I don’t have a lamp for the turtles. So I put the turtles in a container that sits in the window for sunlight. Once, Skit got out of the container and we found it quite easily.

Then, earlier today at about 12:30pm, I open the door to my room to find Tiger MIA (Missing in Action.) There is no way for Skit to get out of it now that we fixed the problem we had with him before, and Tiger’s smaller than Skit, so I turned to the only other possibility, My cat.

Somehow, my year old cat, Pocket, got locked in the room with the turtles. I guess she managed to scoop out Tiger. The screen on my window is loose, with one bottom corner coming off. Upon closer inspection, I realized that if Pocket decided to play with Tiger after she had gotten it out and Tiger tries to get out the window to hide, Pocket could have easily pushed the screen open enough for Tiger to slip out.

The other possibility is that Tiger fell on the floor and hurried to hide somewhere away from Pocket. I tore my whole room up looking for Tiger and didn’t find it.

Does anyone know how to help me?
I have a cover for the tank, but the container for sun doesn’t. It’s a blue plastic thing…
I have a bigger tank that is 55 gallons. However, it has a large leak in it that needs to be fixed before we can use it again. Both turtle loved it, but when I found water on the stand I had it on, we had to empty it and found the whole back side leaking with water. This is just a temporary tank that I keep around for emergencies.

Can you help me with improving my English Essay? Pt.2?

Again there is a link between these two trailers, two shots built for the exact same job and to give the same effect. The link comes in the form of dialogue spoken over the trailer from M – James Bond’s Boss – speaking the words “when you can’t tell your friends from your enemies it’s time to go”. This accompanied by the visual of James in his stereo-typical dinner suit, slightly yellowed from the sand, walking in the desert towards the camera holding a large machine gun high in the air, dazzling sunlight beaming down on him as he trudges over the horizon with the same wearing the same blank expression. The audience deeply analysing every pixel of the screen for more detail until reaching a conclusion: Has 007 finally broke under the strain? Has it all been too much for him? Has he given up, or worse, turned bad? Is this the new rouge Bond?

The next analytical shot can be interpreted either way, both to support or challenge, just too really get you confused. It involves James in a lift, cocking a pistol, with again an emotionless expression, looking very purposeful. This shot is nothing more than a quick flash of light, the shot is in normal light in a mid-shot with the same music of low beats used to build tension with the sound of the gun cocking. This shot gives very little information of what he is doing there, it doesn’t show if he is there on a job or there on a personal vendetta, therefore can be interpreted either way depending on your outlook of Bond’s current behaviour. Is the glass half full or half empty?

The next observation is again from the Quantum of Solace and shows how little Bond cares about himself, or other people and just how ruthless he can be. The scene shows a dim lit apartment coming from cloth covered windows where James has been – shown by previous shots – in a violent hustle with another man whose identity is not shared. In this shot it shows 007 stabbing with force, this man in the neck and killing him. This shot however would be a supporting claim surely, James Bond fighting the bad guys, well the dialogue adds a new dimension to the conundrum: “You don’t care who you hurt” spoken by M. The effect this small piece of dialogue has is extraordinary, the shot no longer shows James killing the bad guys, but killing because he no longer cares. Has James finally got tired of leaving the mess for M to bring to justice? Has he got bored of letting someone else finish them off? Even if they didn’t need to die?

As of before these trailers seem to be very alike as another link occurs, this one from The Dark Knight and just like the shot before this also shows how more ruthless and desperate these action heroes are getting, and how less they are fitting the action hero standards. The linking shot is of batman crouching directly before the camera, with only a thin sliver of a man head appearing as batman screams “where is he” at this man’s face. Only a small portion of background is showing as the main focus is on the Batman and the scene is lit by few street lamps and office building that give very little detail of anything in the shot apart from Batman desperate expression. This shot is also been contributed by loud powerful eruptions of beats which matches the quick paced punchy editing of these shots. This as of the shot before it shows how desperate these two heroes are getting, James exhausted by what he has been asked to do and Batman by the sheer chaos the Joker is causing simply to irritate him. Both however are solving it in the exact same way: ignorance; and violence. James’s out of control madness and Batman unusual violence towards innocents.

This is for my GCSE English media coursework and i’d really appreciate it if someone could help me out fixing grammar, punctuation, spelling, any syntax improvements, or if you think i could put a point across better or even just a sentance you’ve picked out which could be rephrased, all would be welcome. I’m aiming for at least and A, this was last marked at a B, so any improvements would be useful, it’s due in on the 14th (Monday).

I will make improvements of my own, I’m not just getting all of you to do it, it is just better to have someone else look it over as well, as i might miss something.

This is only part of it, you can look over the other parts if you think enough has been said.
This is the essay question by the way: ‘Write for a teenage magazine, a review of the trailers "The Dark Knight" and "Quantum of Solace" commenting on how they support and challenge our notion of a conventional action hero’

Best way to keep my Betta fish warm at night?

Posted on 01. Mar, 2011 by .

My fish Darwin lives in a little tank on top of a dishtowel (for insulation) and I use desk lamps to keep him warm if it is cold inside. He gets about an hour of sunlight from the sun-lamp on my desk as well.
At night he sleeps behind my computer, I lift the computer up and put the back end on his dishtowel, and then I wrap his tank with blankets. In the morning he’s usually under a plant, but if it is especially cold inside, he is right against the computer.
How can I best keep him warm at night, without buying a heater?
All of my Bettas survived quite nicely without heaters at my house, but I can’t control the temperature in my apartment.

I’d like to know more tips, like the computer heat, for keeping a Betta warmest at night, like a heating pad?
But isn’t a heater dangerous for such a tiny fish?

Advice and critique for my story?

Posted on 04. Nov, 2010 by .

- i have worked on it to improve it, but any advice or critique would be most welcome!! -

I walked swiftly to avoid any unpleasant meetings, it was dark already as it often was in winter and the cold was sinking in further than it ever dared in daylight. The dark made it daring and with every step I took my bones grew stiffer and my jaw ached from the pressing chill. In the cold I often got head aches and I could feel one coming now, but I did not mind, soon I would be home and then I would be warm.

The street looked the looked almost the same at night as by day, nothing ever changed here. I could hear drunken male singing coming from a nearby pub and the feminine whining of some old wench trying to raise her voice over the male slurred droning. I knew it was probably my mother but I did not care, it had been a mistake when she had had me, I understood that, it was not out of love, or even lust that I was conceived, it was out of mere cruelty on her part. Her twin sister Mina had loved, and as a rejection of her beautiful sister, my mother had stolen away the man she had loved and with magic blinded his eyes towards her fair sister and instead made him love her. She never loved him but she could never bear her sister to love when she could not. So I was conceived, and born. What a tale of spitefulness, I was not one bit proud of my background though I had long since been forgotten by my parents.

I knew that my father had died, not five days after my birth, coming to his senses he realized what he had done and took his own life. He had been noble man, my dad, and I liked to think that I would have done the same if ever I had been in his position.

I never heard what happened to my aunt but I loved her from the moment I saw her portrait on the old house wall, she had a kind and open face and in my dreams, she took on the manifestation of the Angel of Good. If ever she had had magic as my mother had, it would have been a clear sunlight magic unlike my mother’s which left stains of blood and hate, both figurative and literal, everywhere she went.

The tale of the Two Sisters was a popular one among the towns’ folk, and any children who disobeyed were told that they must be a dreaded child of Myra, at which they cried and swore never to do wrong again. Yes, people knew roughly what had happened, though many variations were heard around the towns, and I was often pitied and always shunned.

Home to me now was the town brothel where I cooked and cleaned in return for being allowed to sleep beside the fire and eat the leftovers, for the brothel maidens did not eat much. They did not mind my shady story as many claimed to similar tales which they thought made them seem more exotic and mysterious.

Reaching the gates the guards let me in and I skipped up the stairs and slipped quietly in. It was warmly lit inside, with strange red lamps hanging everywhere giving off a dark red glow and making the girls seem like shadow nymphs in the haze. A woman over by the far side of the room looked up as I entered and winked at me as I tried to slip by unnoticed. She beckoned to me and I knew I must go, being a mere slave to the Madame, I was their little messenger boy and had to do anything they asked of me. This woman did not work here though, I noticed that immediately, she wore a fully covering dress of a deep lilac and sat looking about her curiously as if this place was the most interesting pub. How wrong she was.

‘You work here boy? What sort of services do you offer? Anything better than these girls who so wantonly beg for any man to fill their upper and lower purses?’ She laughed as she stared at me interestedly and cocked her head to one side waiting for my answer.

I was taken aback, never before had I been asked to fulfill any client’s sexual pleasures, and I knew not how to as I was but a little virgin boy. The thought made me laugh.

‘You find the idea inviting, young one? How much do you charge now for your sweet jewels?’ As I did not answer, she got up and approached the Madame talking in a lowered voice as she gestured towards me. Madame looked surprised but quickly covered it and demanded a ridiculously high price that even I heard. What was she thinking! The other woman nodded exchanged some money and walked back towards me, looking more like an Athena than any of these tiny nymphs that crowded the settees around me, fondling and joking with their suitors for the night.

Up the stairs behind her flowing form I climbed. I gazed nervously around for an excuse for me to leave; I dreaded the moment in the bedroom when the doors were closed, for I knew from listening and spying on the girls that I still had a lot more studying to do before I felt capable to perform any of the acts they seemed so deft at. I dreaded embarrassment and rejection from this lovely woman, handsome and different to anything I had ever known.

How to keep an "sun loving" plant alive?

Posted on 30. Sep, 2010 by .

I have a plant that likes sunlight but I want to take it to my office at work. The only problem is that I don’t have any windows at all in my office. I do have a "lamp" that I can set close to it with a "UV" protection glass over it (which can be removed). Is there any way to keep it alive without direct sunlight or should I just leave it at home where it can get some?

I get tired working in my enclosed office with no outside window. Is it due to a lack of enough light.?

I have a window overlooking the cubicle, but no actual direct sunlight. Just the flourescents. I was thinking of heading out to a local store and buying a cheap lamp to brighten up my office. It is not a lack of sleep or anything like that.

Anyone ever have a problem like this before?

Can I have plants in an office with no sunlight and no fluorescent light?

Posted on 06. Jul, 2010 by .

I work in an office that is in a basement, with no sunlight whatsoever. In addition, this office has no fluorescent light. Instead, it’s lit by 2 incandescent lights in "torchiere" style (those tall lamps with a "bowl" that faces upward).

I’d love to have some plants in here, but ever since my Snakeplant died, I’ve been afraid to bring another one in.

Are there any plants that could work in here? Thanks.
